Actively Giving Back
It is shocking to me that one in five children in the US live in households that struggle to put food on the table. And our region is no exception – with Maryland at the national average and Washington, D.C. with a staggering 30% of kids who struggle with hunger at some point during the year. Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign has been on the frontline of systematically addressing the problem of childhood hunger for years. From the start, they enlisted the help of local chefs, which has now spread to a national effort. Today, No Kid Hungry looks confidently to a day where existing resources can be effectively deployed to end childhood hunger. One of the ways that No Kid Hungry calls attention to the issue is through its annual Chef Cycle bike trip, where chefs (and a few non-chefs) who care, saddle up and ride 300 miles in 3 pretty grueling days to raise money.
