The Community Foundation was recently honored at DC Appleseed’s 20th Anniversary gala on September 16th. Following a reception, a video about DC Appleseed’s history and impact, and a filmed tribute from former President Bill Clinton, a panel of regional leaders reflected on the past 20 years and discussed where the city is headed in the next 20.

DC Appleseed honored 20 law firms, foundations, and businesses that have been indispensable to its work and the resurgence of the District over the last 20 years, including the Community Foundation. More than dozen Community Foundation donors have contributed to DC Appleseed, providing nearly $1 million over the life of the organization. Most recently, The Community Foundation’s Greater Washington Workforce Development Collaborative’s support helped DC Appleseed produce From Basic Skills to Good Jobs: A Strategy for Connecting DC’s Adult Learners to Career Pathways, the highly influential April 2014 report on adult literacy that led the DC Council to approve new funding and initiatives to better address the needs of the District’s adult learners.
