CAFE (The Cultural Academy for Excellence) will present the Positive Vibrations Youth Steel Orchestra (PVYSO), its premier performing ensemble. PVYSO will demonstrate their dexterity and versatility of the steelpan (often called steel drum), national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. PVYSO will take listeners on a musical trip around the world, performing music of varying genres.

CAFE is a youth-based program which uses the performing arts as the catalyst to develop the passion and discipline for learning, leadership and academic achievement.

Play Big Picture with Critical Exposure!

img_0383 (1)

Critical Exposure students are community leaders and photographers. They document issues they face in their schools and communities using photography. Then, using advocacy skills, students share these photographs with decision-makers by testifying in front of city council meetings, scheduling one-on-one presentations, or inviting them to a public exhibit where they identify specific solutions and ask for change. Your job? Inspect our student photos and guess which photo was used to advocate for which issue. Then, check the captions on the back to see if you’re correct. If you get all the photo placements right, you can roll the dice for a chance to win a Critical Exposure book or t-shirt!

Critical Exposure trains youth to use photography and advocacy to make real change in their schools and communities. Through campaigns and visual storytelling, CE helps students raise their voices in conversations about education policies and build the public support and political will needed to address the issues they face.
