New Facility Opening in N.E. to Offer Housing, Heathcare, and Job Training All Under One Roof

Groundbreaking-Group-DCWe were very excited this week to join SOME (So Others Might Eat) for the groundbreaking of their new mixed-use facility on Benning Road in NE, DC. Named The Conway Center in honor of Joanne Conway and SOME’s Building Hope Capital Campaign Chair William E. Conway, Jr., the 320,000 square foot facility will combine 202 units of affordable housing, an expanded SOME Center for Employment Training (SOME CET) and a Medical and Dental Health Center operated by Unity Health Care.

The Community Foundation is proud to support S.O.M.E. and The Conway Center. Through our investments in SOME CET, low-income Washington workers have been able to access innovative adult literacy and job skills training services in the fields of Building Maintenance and Medical Administrative Assistance. Currently, the Community Foundation is supporting CET’s strategic planning work to prepare for the expected 2017 move to the Conway Center and explore the potential for expanded workforce development programming in their new, larger space.

“This will be the first facility in the District of Columbia to offer homeless and low-income women, children and men safe affordable housing, job training and health care, all in one place.” said Fr. John Adams, SOME President. “It is a natural evolution of SOME’s holistic and comprehensive approach to serving homeless and low-income individuals and families.”
