Parent Engagement at Woodland Terrace
Last month, Do The Write Thing, Inc. hosted a parent engagement workshop facilitated by Parent Watch, Inc. and attended by The Community Foundation staff at the Woodland Terrace Community Center. Participants learned techniques on how to work individually and collectively on behalf of their children and community. Parents learned strategies on:
- ➣ How to be an effective advocate for their children;
- ➣ Discipline without anger;
- ➣ Making a good first impression; and
- ➣ Organizational skills for maintaining essential documents.
The group engaged in various role-playing scenarios regarding conflict resolution and effective interactions with authority figures, government agencies and each other. Two highlights of the event were the creation of original songs for community empowerment and cover pages for the parent binders.
