The inner ring counties and cities of Northern Virginia — including Arlington County and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, and Fairfax — include more than 420,000 of our neighbors. Fairfax County is the largest county by population in both Virginia and the Greater Washington region with more than 1.1 million people, as well as the second-wealthiest county in the nation (after Loudoun County). It is also home to major IT and defense industries, and the 12th largest central business district in the nation: Tyson's Corner.

Still, many of our neighbors experience challenges that call for the support of local organizations and donors. The Community Foundation works closely with individuals, families, and businesses to match donor intent with community opportunity to create deeper local impact in Northern Virginia. We serve an important role as a bridge between generous individuals, government and business organizations, and local nonprofits. To learn more, please contact us.

Sharing Northern Virginia

The Sharing Northern Virginia Fund brings together donors who share our passion for building a more equitable, just, and thriving Northern Virginia. With expert facilitation by Community Foundation staff, donors join together to learn first-hand about the challenges facing our community. Thanks to the generosity of this growing community of givers, together we discover and invest in visionary nonprofits working on the frontlines of Northern Virginia’s most pressing needs. Contact us to learn how you can get involved.
