Amazon donated $1 million total to collaborative emergency COVID-19 response funds at four local community foundations across the Greater Washington region who are working to support vulnerable populations disproportionately impacted amid the coronavirus outbreak. The funds will be deployed in the District of Columbia, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland through the Greater Washington Community Foundation; Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William counties and the cities of Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park through the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia; the City of Alexandria through ACT for Alexandria; and Arlington County through the Arlington Community Foundation.
THE ACT NOW COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND
The City of Alexandria and ACT for Alexandria have established the ACT Now COVID-19 Response Fund to provide emergency funding to nonprofit organizations responding to the COVID-19 outbreak. The fund will support programs and services that assist residents of Alexandria who are the hardest hit by the COVID-19 outbreak, including children and youth, low-wage workers, seniors and immigrants. Funding requests will be accepted every Friday and grants will be made weekly on a rolling basis. ARLINGTON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION COVID-19 PROMPT RESPONSE FUND
Arlington Community Foundation’s long-standing Prompt Response Fund allows us to respond quickly to help our nonprofit partners when an emergency, disaster, or crisis hits. To meet the urgent challenges of the COVID-19 outbreak in Arlington, we are focusing our Prompt Response Fund exclusively on support to nonprofit organizations who are on the front lines with clients, patients, and residents impacted by the health crisis. We will rapidly deploy donated funds as grants to nonprofits working tirelessly to support our most vulnerable residents -- those who are experiencing an urgent, unexpected need associated with the coronavirus. As the weeks pass, we anticipate that the hardship on individuals and families will intensify, and our use of these prompt response funds will evolve as this crisis evolves. Community Emergency Relief Fund with the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties is designed to make distributions that are strategic and to fill voids or complement government or other funder initiatives.

THE COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND FOR NORTHERN VIRGINIA
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s COVID-19 Response Fund for Northern Virginia will attract and provide flexible funding resources for nonprofit organizations and other programs in our region responding to COVID-19 and its impacts. The Fund’s focus will be to help communities who are disproportionately impacted by the virus and its economic consequences. The Fund is designed to complement the work of public health officials, as COVID-19 is a public health issue, and as such, funding decisions will be made in consultation with them across our entire service area in Northern Virginia, which includes the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas and Manassas Park.
Block operating grants will be awarded to local nonprofits with deep roots in our community and strong experience working with our most vulnerable neighbors. Aligned Efforts
Several other field of interest funds have been set up at The Community Foundation by external partners for specific needs and populations in response to COVID-19. These funds are separate and distinct from the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund and have been established by generous individuals, businesses, and public-private partnerships. The Community Foundation is not accepting funding requests or proposals related to these funds.
ARTS FORWARD FUND
A collaborative partnership with The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, the Arts Forward Fund is helping small and mid-sized arts and culture organizations make the shifts needed to successfully navigate this crisis and continue their essential role in our communities and lives.
BMC CARES FUND
Established with $1 million in initial funding from the Diane & Norman Bernstein Foundation, Bernstein Management Corporation (BMC), and BDC Properties. The purpose of this fund is to provide residents most affected by COVID-19 with emergency cash assistance to help bridge the gap in meeting immediate life expenses including but not limited to groceries, medication, and bills.
Call Your Mother Deli, Timber Pizza Company, Ballston Service Station, and Turu's Employee Relief Fund
Call Your Mother, a local deli, set up a fund at The Community Foundation to raise money that will help cover team members’ living expenses, helping ensure that all 144 hourly workers continue to receive paychecks. This fund will provide financial support to the hourly team members at Call Your Mother Deli, Timber Pizza Company, Turu’s Pizza, and Ballston Service Station.
The CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield PPE Response Fund
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield launched, “Care, delivered,” a $5 million public-private sector philanthropic endeavor to distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) at no-cost to healthcare and social service organizations on the front lines of the pandemic. Learn more.
Clyde's Restaurant Employee Assistance Fund
The Clyde's Restaurant Employee Assistance Fund was created to provide financial aid to CRG employees whose income was adversely affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
The DC Cares Program
A partnership with Events DC and the Executive Office of the Mayor to distribute $5 million in relief funds to undocumented workers. The DC Cares Program will provide financial assistance to workers in the District of Columbia who have been excluded from federal stimulus efforts and are experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
DC Education Equity Fund
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the launch of the DC Education Equity Fund, a fund established by Education Forward DC and the DC Public Education Fund in partnership with the Greater Washington Community Foundation to make sure every student in DC can fully access learning while schools transition to remote learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has raised $2 million and made $1 million in grants to public school operators to provide students with internet and device access or other learning resources.
Fabio Trabocchi Disaster Relief Fund
The Fabio Trabocchi Disaster Relief Fund provides small grants of financial aid to assist employees of Fabio Trabocchi Restaurants to meet short term critical needs of shelter, food, clothing, transportation, medical care, etc., as well as others individuals and contractors employed in the hospitality industry in these markets.
Feed the Fight
Feed the Fight raises funds to support local restaurants and their staff by ordering food for delivery to the local healthcare workers at hospitals and medical centers in the DMV during the COVID pandemic. Feed the Fight has delivered more than 30,000 meals to health care workers on the frontlines.
Food for MONTGOMERY
The Food for Montgomery Fund was created to connect more food to more people. It is a public-private partnership that galvanizes local businesses, nonprofits, faith communities, County leaders and agencies, and generous donors like you. Learn more.
Get Shift Done DMV
Get Shift Done DMV is helping displaced workers earn a basic income while also providing meals to neighbors in need. These workers are filling a critical gap for nonprofit food access providers facing unprecedented demand for their services while also struggling with a shortfall of volunteers.
LEGACY FUND FOR SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
The Legacy Fund provides critical access to capital for small businesses in Prince George’s County to help minimize business vulnerability to closure and bridge the gap to viability. Funds can be used to support operating expenses including payroll, suppliers, rent, and other business critical costs.
Prince George’s County Government
Our partnership with the Prince George’s County Executive and Prince George’s County Public Schools has expanded critical services for county residents in order to meet basic needs, provide financial assistance to hourly workers who were laid off, and ensure all students can participate in distance learning.
