Pursue Economic Justice
To make our vision for economic justice a reality, we are putting powerful economic strategies to work in the parts of our community experiencing the deepest disparities and historical disinvestment.
together, we prosper campaign
This year, The Community Foundation launched ‘Together, We Prosper,” a $75 million, three-year campaign for economic justice. The Campaign is designed to drive innovative strategies and pilots – like Guaranteed Income and Children’s Savings Programs – that will impact the parts of our community experiencing the deepest disparities in homeownership and income. The Campaign will also ensure The Community Foundation’s ability to respond to today’s needs and tomorrow’s challenges.
Thrive Prince George’s
In November 2023, The Community Foundation partnered with the Prince George’s County Executive and Council and the Meyer Foundation to launch Thrive Prince George’s, a two-year, $4 million guaranteed income pilot that provides monthly payments of $800 to 50 youth who have aged out of foster care and 125 seniors for a 24-month period to increase economic stability and mobility.
Following a rigorous application process with more than 5,000 inquiries, our nonprofit partners - United Communities Against Poverty and Court Appointed Special Advocates Prince George’s - began distributing payments in April 2024.
Health Equity Fund
In October 2023, the Health Equity Fund celebrated one year of transformative grantmaking in DC. In addition to distributing more than $21 million in grants, the fund also launched a learning series to convene nonprofit partners around the issues most relevant to their work.
Reimagine
The Community Foundation was proud to introduce Reimagine (formerly the Greater Washington Workforce Development Collaborative). Reimagine is a coalition of funders committed to co-creating solutions alongside communities and people to advance systemic economic justice rooted in reimagining, redistributing, and rebalancing work, opportunity, and sustainability.
